STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (1979) UPAC FRIDAY FILM SERIES
Films return to midtown Kingston for a second season!

(Poughkeepsie, NY) The Bardavon is pleased to continue the second year of classic movies on the big screen at the Ulster Performing Arts Center (UPAC) in Kingston on Friday, November 20 at 7:30pm. Screened will be the sci-fi classic Star Trek: The Motion Picture. All seats are just $5. The sponsors for the Friday Film Series at UPAC are Kevin & Brian Ginty CFP and the Kingston Daily Freeman. The return of films at UPAC was made possible in large part through a NYS grant obtained by Assemblyman Kevin Cahill.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is the first film based on the Star Trek television series and was released by Paramount Pictures. When a mysterious and immensely powerful alien cloud called V'ger approaches Earth and destroying everything in its path, Admiral James T. Kirk assumes command of his old starship, the USS Enterprise, to lead a mission to save the planet and determine V'ger's origins.

The original crew of the Starship Enterprise from the 1960s TV show is reunited in this dramatic, full-length science fiction epic. Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner), formerly a captain, is called upon to collect his old crewmates in order to save humanity from a giant, hostile alien vessel steadily approaching Earth and destroying all it encounters. The complex alien life-forms possess such advanced intelligence that even the brilliant Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) fails to comprehend the massive structure that contains them. There is tension on the ship, as well as in the universe, as Commander Willard Decker (Stephen Collins), the Enterprise's new captain, is relegated to being Kirk's assistant. In addition, Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley), the lovable, crotchety doctor who is constantly at odds with Spock, must be tricked away from his life of relaxation to serve on a voyage he wants no part of. It's not long before the Enterprise is taken over by the alien entity, and navigator Ilia (Persis Khambatta) is abducted. When she is returned to the Enterprise, she informs Kirk that unless the entity is united with its creator it will destroy the Earth. With excellent special effects and witty nods to the old series, Star Trek: The Motion Picture set a new standard in sci-fi films and paved the way for a host of excellent sequels.

The Kevin & Brian Ginty, CFP Friday Film Series at UPAC continues with It's a Wonderful Life (12/18), Goldfinger (2/4), Casablanca (3/5), Raiders of the Lost Ark (4/23).

All seats are just $5 and general admission.
