BARDAVON & WALKWAY OVER THE HUDSON PRESENT
ASTRONOMER BOB BERMAN
The Planets Over the Walkway
Lecture and sky-view of a rare planetary “String of Pearls” on the Walkway Over the Hudson, Saturday, May 10
(Poughkeepsie, NY) The Bardavon and Walkway Over the Hudson are pleased to announce a special event featuring renowned astronomer Bob Berman in a special lecture under the stars called: The Planets Over the Walkway at 8:00pm on Saturday May 10, 2014. Sky viewing with telescopes courtesy of the Mid-Hudson Astronomy Club will follow the lecture. (Cloud Date: Sunday, May 11, at 8:00pm. Call the Bardavon Box Office on May 10 to confirm a clear night).
The Walkway Over the Hudson will be the venue for a beautiful astronomical event. All the planets except Venus will form a "string of pearls" across the heavens. Even the near-mythical, rarely-seen Mercury will be splendidly visible. Renowned astronomer Bob Berman will conduct the fact-and-humor-filled exploration of this rare planetary alignment at the midpoint of the bridge, with the Mid-Hudson Astronomy Association setting up telescopes to provide close-up views of these beautiful worlds.
Author of seven books, Bob Berman is one of the best known and most widely read astronomers in the world. He is uniquely able to translate complex scientific concepts into language that is understandable to the casual observer yet meaningful to the most advanced. His dry, edgy wit also engages readers of such diverse publications as Discover Magazine, Astronomy Magazine, and The Old Farmer’s Almanac.
Mr. Berman has been a guest on the David Letterman show, and is heard weekly on WAMC Northeast Public Radio during NPR's Weekend Edition. Locally, his weekly column in the Ulster Almanac has been published since 1975. His newest and most epic, The Sun’s Heartbeat, published by Little, Brown is available at Amazon.com and elsewhere. It will also be available to purchase at Berman’s lecture event.
Tickets for Bob Berman on the Walkway are $5 and are available at:
