David Sedaris

In its review of David Sedaris’ new book Calypso, the Washington Post said, “After 25 years and nine essay collections, after publishing 500 pages of his own diary, the most shocking thing David Sedaris can do is reveal that he’s been holding things back.” Following its publication in May, Calypso immediately shot to the top of the NY Times bestseller list, and now David returns to Poughkeepsie for his annual reading and signing at the Bardavon. Slashing through cultural euphemisms and political correctness, he will delight the audience with twists of humor and intelligence as he shares both published stories and works-in-progress.

David has invited writer Akhil Sharma to open for him with a brief reading and Akhil will also join David at the post show signing. Akhil Sharma is the author of An Obedient Father, winner of the PEN/Hemingway Award and was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Best American Short Stories, and O. Henry Award Stories. A native of Delhi, he lives in New York City and is an assistant professor of English at Rutgers University, Newark.
