Peru Negro was formed more than thirty years ago to preserve Peru's African heritage here's a great opportunity locally to enhance Black History Studies. This company of twenty singers, dancers and musicians performs all over the world and has been appointed as “Cultural Ambassadors of Peruvian Culture” by the Peruvian government. While the group continues to reinterpret many traditional songs, it also composes new music and in 2005, Peru Negro's second US album Jolgorio was honored with two Grammy nominations.
