Season 2009-2010 Event

Hudson Valley Philharmonic
Young People's Concert

Tell Me Your Story! A musical exploration of storytelling in great classical music.

Poughkeepsie, New York
Grades: 3 - 7
Running time 1 hour

Our goal is to enrich the lives of children by exposing them to beautiful music. The concert and hands on residency activities will engage your students through creative exploration and active musical participation. Developing your students' natural musical competence will assist them in becoming successful listeners, and awaken their interest in the many ways music plays out in school learning and life.

The Young People's Concert is interactive and uses a theme to introduce students to serious classical music. Hosted by two professional actors, it features the Hudson Valley Philharmonic under the direction of Guest Conductor Marietta Cheng.

The repertoire will include:

Berlioz - Overture to Le Corsaire
Beethoven - Overture to Leonore no. 3
Prokofiev - Romeo and Juliet Suite no. 2,
The Montagues and the Capulets
Chabrier - Danse Slav from Le Roi Malgre Lui
(The King in Spite of Himself)
Rossini - Overture to the Italian Girl in Algiers

PLUS:

  •  a solo performance by the winner of the Virtuoso in Progress Competition
  •  performance of the composition written by local students who participated in the CLASSROOM TO CONCERT Program.
  •  a study guide and CD will be provided to educators.

Before attending the concert we strongly recommend participating in CLASSROOM TO CONCERT, a program designed to give your students the ultimate musical experience.
