Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre

The Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre's 28th Annual Gala Performance at the Bardavon includes George Balanchine’s charming ballet Valse-Fantaisie set to music of Mikhail Glinka; Doris Humphrey’s classic modern work from 1930, The Shakers and Sentinel; a moving piece by choreographer David Berkey to music of Johannes Brahms; as well as works by four Vassar faculty members, including Stephen Rooks' Selections from the Griot Dance, inspired by his recent visit to Africa and featuring music by adjunct artist Howard Kilik; Katherine Wildberger's Battlescars/The Disappeared, set to Thomas Tallis's "Spem In Alium"; a reprise of Abby Saxon's popular jazz ballet Rush Hour, co-choreographed by Martha Ross Tobias; and VRDT Director John Meehan's new ballet Mozart Variations, set to Mozart's Variations in G Major, K. 501. Several dances have also been choreographed by students. The finale Exurgency, choreographed by the artistic directors of Rhinebeck-based Solas An Lae, Deirdre Lowry and Patrick Brown, features the entire company of 35 dancers.
