Season 2010-2011 Event

Bardavon Gala 2011
starring DIANA ROSS
She helped shape the Motown sound as lead singer of The Supremes, before leaving the group for a record-breaking solo career. Since the beginning with The Supremes and as a solo artist, Ross has sold more than 100 million records.
Ross is among the most successful female artists, crossing over into film, television and Broadway. She received a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her role as Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues, for which she won a Golden Globe Award. She won awards at the American Music Awards, garnered twelve Grammy Award nominations, and won a Tony Award for her one-woman show, An Evening with Diana Ross.
Billboard magazine named her "Female Entertainer of the Century." The Guinness Book of World Records declared Diana Ross the most successful female music artist in history with a total of eighteen American #1 singles (twelve as lead singer of The Supremes and six as a soloist). Ross was the first female solo artist to score six #1 hits. This feat puts her in a tie for 5th place among solo female artists with the most #1 songs on the Hot 100. She is also one of the few recording artists to have two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame -- one as a solo artist and the other as a member of The Supremes. In December 2007, she received a John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Honors Award. Funds raised by the Bardavon Gala help underwrite many programs that cannot support themselves -- programs like our school residencies that bring artists and musicians to local schools, ambitious symphonic events, and special events for senior citizens.
Made possible in part through the generous support of the James J. McCann Charitable Trust.
This event is sponsored by Key Bank, Majestic Insurance, HITS, DRA Imaging, Marianne Murray and Rich Rowley.
The promotional sponsors are Poughkeepsie Journal and Mix97.
