Season 2010-2011 Event
2011 Price Chopper BHM STEP OFF
The 2011 Price Chopper Black History Month Step Off is a step show featuring regional and local step teams competing on the Bardavon stage. Few people outside of black Greek-letter organizations or black college students are familiar with the dynamic and popular movement art known as "stepping" (sometimes "blocking"). Created by African American fraternities and sororities in the mid-twentieth century, step is a complex dance form that grew out of a wider African American tradition and aesthetic. Over the past fifty years, step has incorporated elements of many other popular artistic forms, including military drills, children's games, cheerleading, martial arts, acrobatics, hip hop, and tap dancing-to name but a few-while still retaining its distinctiveness.
This event is hosted by The Poughkeepsie High Step Team.
