Season 2011-2012 Event

Baobab

Theatre Motus, Montreal Quebec Canada

Grades: K-4 (limited to 700)

Running time is approximately 1 hour
In this region of West Africa, where a drought has been persistent, stands a towering and ancient Baobab tree. One day, the Baobab brings forth an egg and from this egg is born a little boy. The people in the village discover that the boy is the only one who can free the source of water. This begins a quest during which only the courage of a child can change the history of the world. In this sunny environment where shade from the Baobab tree provides a soothing break, the musicians and their instruments turn into animals while masks and puppets become genies or witches. The great griot guides you in this fabulous story inspired by African legends. The audience is engaged from the moment the company strolls through the house welcoming them. Puppets and actors make up for a fascinating interaction, puppets transposing human movement and actors awaken emotions.
