Our goal is to enrich the lives of children by exposing them to beautiful music. The interactive concert and hands on residency activities will engage your students through creative exploration and active musical participation. Developing your students’ natural musical competence will assist them in becoming successful hearers, and awaken their interest in the many ways music plays out in school learning and life.
The Young People’s Concerts are interactive and use a theme to introduce students to serious classical music. Hosted by two professional actors, they feature the Hudson Valley Philharmonic under the direction of Guest Conductor Marietta Cheng.

The repertoire will include:
Rossini Overture to Semiramide
Berlioz Overture to Les Francs-Juges
Tchaikovsky Swan Lake No. 1 Scene
Tchaikovsky Sleeping Beauty No. 5 Valse
Mussorgsky Night on Bald Mountain
Gliere Russian Sailor’s Dance from The Red Poppy

Plus:
• solo performance by the winner of the Virtuoso in Progress Competition
• performance of the composition written by local students who participated in the Classroom to
Concert Program

Study Guide and CD for educators
Before attending the concert we strongly recommend participating in Classroom to Concert, a program designed to give your students the ultimate musical experience.

“Whenever we can draw upon our students limited life experiences and have them use their imagination – great things are bound to happen.”
Mary Mullaney/Band Teacher/Morse & WW Smith, Poughkeepsie, NY

“A fabulous springboard to my unit; we always add more artwork and we act out all of the stories, but I start with this!”
Karen Boden/Cornwall-on-Hudson & Willow Avenue Elementary Schools, Cornwall, NY

This event is sponsored by the Rhinebeck Savings Bank, and WMHT. Also made possible by the Dr. Jeffrey Perchick Memorial Fund of the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.
