Scrooged (1988)

Rich in special effects, this darkly comic modern adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol stars former SNL funnyman Bill Murray playing the role of Frank Cross, a cold-hearted TV exec who is planning a live production of A Christmas Carol for a special. Frank’s childhood wasn’t a particularly memorable one, leaving him bereft of any Christmas Spirit, and his adaptation starts to mirror his own life. Things get worse when his dead former boss visits to tell him the error of his ways and that he will be visited by three ghosts. Frank takes heed of the ghost’s advice and starts immediately to make amends. Karen Allen co-stars in this celebrity-packed holiday feature, which also includes David Johansen, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum and more.
