Ballet Arts Studio presents
Dances at an Exhibition

Ballet Arts Studio and the Dutchess Dance Company are pleased to present Dances at an Exhibition, their annual Spring Concert. With Dances at an Exhibition, Ballet Arts Studio is exploring classic and important works of visual art as inspiration for dance. Both the performing classes and the Dutchess Dance Company (the studio’s pre- professional company) are working with specific works of art for the performance, from Impressionists such as Degas, Monet and Renoir, to more modern works by Picasso, Mondrian and Kandinsky, as well as traditional masks and textiles from Africa.

Edgar Degas, whose paintings of ballet dancers are known throughout the world said, “People call me the painter of dancers, but I really wish to capture movement itself”. At Dances at an Exhibition, our dancers will capture the spirit of these visual pieces with over 20 works of art set to music and dance!
Dances at an Exhibition will highlight the studio’s classical and conservatory level ballet training, as well as it’s modern, jazz and African programs in a family-friendly performance. The program will also include the premieres of new ballet works by Todd Hall and Alana Niehoff, resident choreographers for the Dutchess Dance Company.
