Season 2015-2016 Event

Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)

The Bardavon is pleased to kick off its 9th season of presenting classic films on the big screen at UPAC with an enduring horror film double bill: Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3-D (1954)

Bride of Frankenstein is a 1935 American horror film, the first sequel to the influential Frankenstein (1931), directed by James Whale and stars Boris Karloff as The Monster, Elsa Lanchester in the dual role of his mate and Mary Shelley, Colin Clive as Henry Frankenstein and Ernest Thesiger as Doctor Septimus Pretorius. Modern film scholars, noting Whale's homosexuality and that of others involved in the production, have found a gay sensibility in the film, although a number of Whale's associates have dismissed the idea. On several occasions, Universal Pictures has sought to remake the film.

Creature from the Black Lagoon is a 1954 monster horror film directed by Jack Arnold, and starring Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, and Whit Bissell. The eponymous creature was played by Ben Chapman on land and Ricou Browning in underwater scenes and was filmed and originally released in 3-D. It was one of the first Universal Pictures films filmed in 3-D (the first was It Came from Outer Space, which was released a year before). It is considered a classic of the 1950s.
