Appalachian Fusion

Presented by Bardavon & The Poughkeepsie Public Library District’s NEA BIG READ

A lively mix of Appalachian music and dance with Vanaver Caravan blended with images of Appalachia from the FDR Presidential Library collection. In addition, the program includes two readings from Ron Rash’s Burning Bright featuring Actor’s Studio veteran Maggie Low and stage, film and TV actor Michael Kingsbaker, plus Mount Academy student Gavin Maendel reading from Mary Knight’s Saving Wonder.

Copies of both featured books will be available for purchase at this event by Oblong Books & Music.

The BIG READ is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) created to broaden our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. Showcasing a diverse range of contemporary books that reflect many different voices and perspectives, the NEA Big Read aims to inspire conversation and discovery.
