The General (1926)

The General is an American silent comedy-action-adventure film inspired by The Great Locomotive Chase of 1862, and adapted from the memoir by William Pittenger. It stars Buster Keaton, who also co-directed with Clyde Bruckman.

When it was released near the end of the Silent Era, The General was not well received by critics or audiences but today is considered to be one of the greatest films ever made; it’s ranked among the American Film Institute’s 100 Best American Movies of All Time.
