FREE MOVIE: A Hard Day’s Night (1964)

dir. Richard Lester

The series begins with the stars that perhaps had the largest imprint on 20th century culture, The Beatles. Released at the height of Beatlemania, the film endures thanks to the brilliant comic performances of John, Paul, George, and Ringo, as well as a slew of pop anthems, including the title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “I Should Have Known Better,” and “If I Fell.”

The raucous, anything-goes attitude of director Richard Lester, and the film’s clever Oscar-nominated screenplay prove to be a perfect match for The Beatles’ musical and comedic skills. A Hard Day’s Night reconceived the movie musical and proves to be one of the most entertaining films ever made.

Bardavon Presents our 24/25 film series, PREMIER PERFORMANCES. This year’s film choices focus on legendary stars of stage and screen in some of their most memorable roles. In addition to the screenings being free of charge, all nine films in the series are preceded by a Happy Hour, featuring half-price beer and wine, as well as free snacks and soda. For all films, Happy Hour starts at 6:30, followed by each screening at 7:30. Additionally, all Bardavon screenings feature a 30-minute pre-show concert by Juan Cardona Jr. on the Bardavon’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ, courtesy of NYTOS. Join us and experience a piece of cinematic history!

Curated by the Kingston Film Foundation, and made possible with support from Marshall & Sterling, Radio Kingston, Herzog’s, Woodstock Film Festival, NYTOS, and the Poughkeepsie Public Library District.
